Initial broth microdilution quality control guidelines for Debio 1452, a FabI inhibitor antimicrobial agent.

Debio 1452, formerly called AFN-1252 (Fig. 1), is an investigational FabI inhibitor that has demonstrated potent activity against Staphylococcus aureus (1–5). Currently, Debio 1450 (prodrug of Debio 1452) is in clinical development by the Debiopharm Group (6, 7). Debio 1452 selectively inhibits bacterial enoyl-acyl carrier protein (enoyl-ACP) reductase, an essential step in the elongation cycle...

Quality control guidelines for disk diffusion and broth microdilution antimicrobial susceptibility tests with seven drugs for veterinary applications.

This multicenter study proposes antimicrobial susceptibility (MIC and disk diffusion methods) quality control (QC) parameters for seven compounds utilized in veterinary health. Alexomycin, apramycin, tiamulin, tilmicosin, and tylosin were tested by broth microdilution against various National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS)-recommended QC organisms (Staphylococcus aureus ATC...

Broth microdilution susceptibility testing of Brucella species: quality control limits for ten antimicrobial agents against three standard quality control strains.

Brucella broth without supplementation is the recommended medium for broth microdilution susceptibility tests of Brucella abortus, B. melitensis, and B. suis. Based on an eight-laboratory collaborative study using a pH-adjusted modification of this medium, we propose MIC quality control ranges for three control strains against 10 antimicrobials that are potentially efficacious for treating infe...

Broth microdilution susceptibility testing of Francisella tularensis: quality control limits for nine antimicrobial agents and three standard quality control strains.

For broth microdilution susceptibility tests of Francisella tularensis, Mueller-Hinton broth with 2% Isovitalex is recommended. Using that medium, we studied three standard control strains tested with nine antimicrobial agents potentially efficacious for treating tularemia. An eight-laboratory collaborative study generated the data needed to propose appropriate MIC control limits.

Disk diffusion susceptibility testing and broth microdilution quality control guidelines for BMY-28100, a new orally administered cephalosporin.

The BMY-28100 30-micrograms-disk test was evaluated by using 615 clinical isolates. Regression analyses and error rates were determined, leading to the recommendation of greater than or equal to 18-mm zone diameters (MIC correlate, greater than or equal to 8.0 micrograms/ml) for susceptibility and less than or equal to 14-mm zone diameters (MIC correlate, greater than or equal to 32 micrograms/...
